Seating-
I found a washing board panel from the residencys shed. It was saved from an old closed down kindergarden in Valga, which will be demolished soon. The rhythm of each plank on the board attracted me to make something out of it and as it happened to be quite wide and long (fitting up to four people comfotably), I went ahead and started visioning an outdoor bench out of  the board.

As a designer I like to follow forms and colours that come with the context I build for, leading me to imitations / modifications. In general I find the effort of being totally original, problematic, which is why I like to pay attention to details around me to use them as a reference for constructing an addition to the space - adding to the context.

I’d like to connect the outdoor seating to the benches we use indoors in-order to form an overall ensemble. Surely the scale and details will differ, because of the new bench being purely constructed out of leftovers, yet the composition of the inside bench will be reflected upon the new one, creating an imitation of it.

The paint I used for colouring the bench is the same one covering the floors and walls of our common kitchen. The bench legs are constructed from OSB particleboards and solid wood blocks. As we are invited here to understand, recycle and analyse particleboards in a critical manner, I decided to work with it as I would with veneer or solid wood just to see how challenging it is to saw, chisel and put together with other types of materials. I’m also curious to know how durable the second cycled OSB turns out to be.
